Bird Dog Woodworks & Laser Engraving is a one-person shop in Ontario, New York. Every badge, flag, coaster and sign that leaves it was designed, cut, engraved and finished by me.

Who's behind the shop

I'm Chris, a Sergeant with the New York State Police, a husband, and the father of one amazing toddler, with our second due in late November. The shop is named after Hudson, our German Shorthaired Pointer, the original bird dog of the family.

Carrying a badge is why law enforcement gifts are at the heart of what I make. I know what a retirement shield or a promotion flag means to the person receiving it, and I build every one like it's going on my own wall.

Why it takes the time it takes

Between a job with hours that change week to week and a young family at home, time is the most valuable thing I have. When I spend it in the shop, it's because the work matters to you and to me. Nothing here is rushed, mass-produced or pulled off a shelf.

Lead times

Most orders are finished in 2–4 weeks. Some take longer: new agency artwork, larger or more detailed pieces, bulk quantities, holiday volume and my own schedule all play a part. I keep the banner at the top of this website updated with the most accurate current lead time, and you can always check the Current Lead Times page.

Working toward a retirement, graduation or event date? Message me before you order and I'll tell you honestly whether I can make it. Rush Production (1–2 weeks, +$19.99) is available on many items.

How I work with you

Every custom order comes with a free digital proof, and nothing is cut until you approve it. The proof is where the conversation starts, not where it ends: I'll work through the details with you so the finished piece exceeds what you pictured.

When I can, I donate pieces from the shop to the families of fallen officers and to events held in their honor.
